About EnGarde

EnGarde Speech and Debate club was formed in 2011.

EnGarde is open to homeschooled students who are no younger than 12 years old as of January 1 of the competition year and no older than 18 years old as of September 1 of the competition year. New applicant families whose oldest students are 12 or 13 are required to schedule an interview with EnGarde Parent Council before enrollment can be accepted. Although NCFCA allows competitors as young as 12 or 13, our experience indicates that readiness at that age varies, and the EnGarde Parent Council would need to assess readiness in the family interview.

We define a homeschooled student as one whose education is managed by his or her parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and which may include the use of tutors, video courses, internet courses, university-model programs, dual-credit classes, classes in cooperation with other homeschool students, and other creative methods that supplement home education.

All members of EnGarde are required to affiliate with the NCFCA and compete in a minimum of two in-person regional qualifier NCFCA tournaments during the current competition year. To affiliate with NCFCA, a competing family must affirm the league’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, and Position Statements, as described on the NCFCA website.
